Speedway’s boys and girls track athletes opened the indoor portion of their season on March 3rd. The program hosted the Sparkplug Qualifier at the UIndy indoor track facility.
Senior Gianni Dal Corobbo finished fourth out of 18 competitors in the 60 meter hurdles race while also notching a fourth place finish out of 15 contestants in the long jump. Dal Corobbo jumped 14’8.
Sophomore Kristen Pagach set a new personal record of 28’10 in the shot put while placing ninth out of 18 people for the girls.
On the boys side, juniors Donivan Beninger and Michael Miller led the Sparkplug highlights. Beninger set a new personal record of 7.35 in the 60 meter dash while finishing eighth out of 29 competitors. Beninger also finished seventh in the long jump with a best of 18’5. Miller finished one place better in the long jump with a best of 18’10.
The Speedway girls compete in the UIndy Indoor Meet on March 10th and the boys will compete on the 17th. Both teams will attempt to qualify athletes for the Indoor HSR meet at IU Bloomington on March 28th. The head coach of the Sparkplugs is Tyler Carmichael.
