Sparkplugs News · Girls take runner-up finish at ICC championship meet

The girls tennis team finished the month of April at 6-2.   They continued their strong performance so far this season with a solid runner-up finish at the ICC championships held at Ben Davis on May 1st.

Junior Tiana Sparks earned all-ICC honors for her runner-up finish at #1 singles.    Sparks is 7-3 overall this season.

Senior Taylor Sparks finished as runner-up at #2 singles.   The senior currently stands at 7-2 overall this season.

Junior Lexi Frey continues to improve each week and her improvement earned her a runner-up finish at the #3 singles flight.

The #1 doubles team of Madalyn Cox (12) and Daniella Galvez (9) earned all-ICC honors for their runner-up finish.   Cox and Galvez won two of three matches on Saturday.

And, the #2 doubles team of seniors Rylee Mathis and Bailey Evans won two matches on their way to a third place finish.

The runner-up finish increased Speedway’s lead in the All-Sports ICC Girls competition.   Speedway has accrued 92 points.   Cardinal Ritter is 14 points behind in 2nd place with two sports remaining (Track, Softball).

The girls have four dual matches this week, weather permitting and will host Decatur Central May 10th in the opening round of the Marion County tournament.
