Speedway’s impressive mid-season run came to an end Friday night in the semifinal round of the IHSAA 3A sectional tournament. In a game that was very evenly contested throughout, Speedway fell victim to a brief scoring drought in the final three minutes and the Sparkplugs fell to Cardinal Ritter, 57-50.

The game was tied at 48 for multiple possessions and the Sparkplugs had shots to take the lead but Cardinal Ritter outscored the Sparkplugs 9-2 in the final 3:30 to take the contest. Speedway concluded the season with a 16-7 record.

Brooke Hartman posted 17 points on 55% shooting from the field while Maddie Barnes added 11 points and seven assists. Senior Gianni Dal Corobbo had nine hardfought rebounds while battling inside all night for the Sparkplugs. Dal Corobbo was the only starter who concluded high school play against the Raiders as eight of the nine top players in the lineup return for coach Joe Smith’s squad.
