Speedway’s varsity girls basketball team defeated arch-rival Cardinal Ritter for the first time in eleven seasons. The girls led by twelve points at the intermission, survived a tough third quarter and closed the deal in the final frame by shooting 80% over the final eight minutes.
Senior Maddie Barnes had a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Barnes also collected two steals and distributed four assists in a great overall game.
Classmate Brooke Hartman added eleven points and freshman Daniella Galvez turned in a second strong performance, leading the Sparkplugs with 12 rebounds.
The girls are now 1-0 in the ICC and 2-0 overall. They host Scecina Memorial in another ICC battle on Friday November 20th and it will be Senior Night for the girls.
